How to build a meditation stool?

Hello,

I was looking for a material (wood, plastic, or composite wood) that would be both light and strong enough to make a mediation stool (see photo below). They are usually made of pine, but I was looking for something lighter... I was wondering if someone could recommend some materials that are available at Bunnings.

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community, it is fantastic to have you with us.

Unfortunately, I am not aware of a material that would be lighter than pine, while still being strong enough to support the weight of a person. 

Composite timbers are, in my experience, heavier than pine, and the only timber I am aware of that is lighter and readily available is balsa wood, which would definitely break under the weight of a person.

I'd suggest you stick with the conventional approach and use something like 184 x 19mm DAR Pine or 235 x 19mm DAR Pine to construct your meditation stool. You could pair this with some butt hinges to emulate the design you have shown above.
