How to fix pool mosaic tiles falling off?

Hi Team,

The 48×48 mosaic tiles in my pool are falling off — please see the attached photo.

I also suspect that water may be leaking behind the area where the tiles have fallen off, as the water level consistently drops just below that point.

Could you please advise if there is a product I can use to re-adhere the tiles and seal any potential leaks? Ideally in a small package, as only about 10 tiles need repairing so far.

And is there anything I can do now to stop more tiles falling off?

Also, does Bunnings sell pool mosaic tiles in the same colour?

There are tile products like Dunlop 310ml Tile-All Plus Premixed Tile Adhesive, which are suitable for reattaching pool mosaic tiles, but it’s worth keeping in mind that if the water level is consistently dropping to the height where the tiles have come off, that can point to more than just loose tiles. Once multiple tiles are missing, water can reach the concrete or rendered structure behind them and slowly weep through. If the drop in level is quite noticeable rather than gradual evaporation, there may be a crack or failure in the substrate behind the tiles that’s worth investigating further before simply reattaching them.

In terms of sealing the area, the waterproofing is achieved by properly adhering the tiles back to the substrate. Once the tiles are fixed and the adhesive sealant has cured, this prevents water from directly contacting the surface behind. There isn’t a separate sealant that replaces this process for tiled pool finishes. 

To reduce the chances of more tiles falling off, it can help to check the surrounding tiles for movement. If any feel loose or sound hollow when tapped, it’s often better to remove and re-adhere them at the same time rather than fixing them one by one as they let go. If the tiles are reaching the end of their lifespan, ongoing repairs may be unavoidable until a larger re-tiling is done.
