What are the most reliable tap connectors?

I have these in my garden connected to a retractable hose reel

and sometimes it falls off when the tap isn't fully turned off and left for a while. I'd like to understand the different types of these .

mine has one O ring but I see some of them have two rings, does this make any difference since leaking is not a problem with one ring.

I was wondering if a brass set would be any more durable but I saw that the connector inside the hose still uses nylon to lock it in

I'm assuming my current one is failing because of the nylon lock on the Orange hose part not holding on properly. The brass one does not seem to fix this problem.

I also see that some connectors have this stop valve inside. What does it do and why do only some connectors have it?

If the hose connector is falling off the tap adaptor, then it sounds like it could just be worn out, or something has become damaged over time. A brass connector will certainly last longer in this situation simply because plastic will damage easier than metal will.

Yes, that is correct, the stop valve would go on the nozzle end, not the tap end.

The idea with the Garden Basics Hose Connect and Nozzle Set is that you would attach the tap connector to your tap, then use the hose connector without the stop valve to connect the hose to the tap connector. You would then use the hose connector with the stop valve on the other end with the nozzle connecting to it. In the event the nozzle comes off while there is water coming through the hose, the stop valve will cut off flow, so water isn't wasted.

So I can better understand the issue, could you please let me know where exactly the issue resides? Is it that your hose is falling out of the Hose Connector? Or is the hose connector falling off the Tap Adaptor?

The most common scenario is a hose coming out of the tap connector, so I assume this is the issue you are experiencing.

If this is the case, the first thing you should check is that the hose itself is cut nice and square and that it is fully inserted into the hose connector before the nut is tightened. If the hose is not cut square or inserted to the full depth possible, then the nut may not be g. Over time, the pressure of the water passing through the hose, combined with this weak connection, can work the hose loose.

Typically a brass hose connector will be more reliable, because the brass threads allow you to get the nut much tighter than plastic ones will. This is because the plastic will have more flex than brass will.

If you double check that the hose is in good condition, cut square and that it is fully inserted in your hose connector and you are still having issues, it would definitely be worth looking to at least replacing your hose connector with a brass version.

The dual O-rings are more of a fail safe than anything. While a single o-ring will work fine, a double o-ring adds an extra layer of protection that is worth considering.

The hose connector with stop valve that you can see in the kit can also be purchased separately. It is there to stop water wastage in the event that the hose connector disconnects from a sprayer or nozzle unintentionally.

The hose connector with stop valve - that goes on the nozzle end not the tap end? I'm using a metal one like this so it seems fine at the moment

although I must say the spray adjustment is not very useful on this model

With regard to quick-connect hose fittings.

I only buy/replace garden hoses fitted with I call crimped connections (see arrow).
I also never use the stop valve type because when you 'eject' the current nozzle fitting it's like a 'lucky dip' hoping the hose itself won't blow off it's snap-on fitting at the tap end.
