We want to install floorboards but need to create some space between them and our steel door. Any suggestions on how to, or who can, do this?
Hi @TOPL,
Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community, it is fantastic to have you with us.
There are two ways that this would be possible, either reduce the height of the floor, or cut the door down to allow for clearance. Without further details, it would be difficult to say what would be easier, but generally speaking, cutting the door down is easier.
Do you have any photos of the door that you could share? Particularly the top and bottom corners, which will hopefully show us the construction method of the door.
Unless you live in a bank vault, it's pretty unlikely that the door is solid steel, so I would say it is likely clad with steel, with a timber frame. This would mean the cladding could be cut with an angle grinder with a metal cut off blade, or with a specialised metal saw such as this DeWALT 18V XR Metal Cutting Circular Saw and the core with a standard circular saw.
If you were looking for someone to carry out the work for you, I would suggest you contact a company or sole-trading carpenter who specializes in doors. If you Google something like "Door repairs near me" you should be able to find companies or tradespeople to help.
Let me know if you have any further questions.
