I purchased this kitchen floor with my house, and I would like to undo it.
This is a kitchen refresh made with very poorly installed hybrid floorboards. Looking at installation instructions has helped me understand what the problems are… and it does not seem salvageable.
I have unlevel boards, gappy (widthways) boards, gappy (lengthways) boards, and a pretty poor attempt to tidy up some of the edges. Underneath the transition to the original floorboards in the dining area - the boards are all different lengths. I know this because I took up the metal transition plate to correct things sliding up and down like a kids puzzle… the plate sometimes doesn't have anything to screw in to. That plate also turns out to run at a slight angle.
Best guess - the original tiles are under there. One clue is the 'rental house phenomena' of a tile high-step up into the room.
I'm going to have a go at undoing this. A well laid but dated floor would be preferable to me. I suspect the poor workmanship may be in my favour when things come out. So…on the one hand I'd like to just rip into it. On the other hand… could be pitfalls and I have no idea what I can't see under there. One of my concerns is that I also have some very poorly installed Kaboodle cabinetry, and the poorly installed floor might be disguising some of those mistakes.
As with my other posts - I am on a close to zero budget, and I can handle things not being pretty, so long as they are functional.
