AnAny suggestions on what to use to repair these posts? They are under cover, perks of having a large dog.. Thank you
Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @Ausgill. It's fantastic to have you join us and many thanks for your question on repairing posts.
From the photos, the damage doesn’t look significant enough to be anywhere near a structural issue, so it’s more of a cosmetic repair. Start by sanding back any timber that’s proud of the surface and remove loose or splintered material. You can then rebuild the damaged corners using Builder’s Bog. This is best done in several thin applications rather than one thick fill, allowing it to cure between coats. Once you’re happy with the shape and finish, prime the repaired area with Dulux 1 Step Primer and then paint over it with Dulux Weathershield to match and protect the post.
One word of warning though, I’ve played the chew toy vs filler game before, and if your dog has decided this post is fair game, you’re unlikely to win long term. You might want to consider fixing a piece of clear acrylic sheet to the front of the post to physically block access to the timber in that area. It’s discreet and far more durable than repeatedly repairing and repainting.
Please let me know if you have any questions.

Thanks for the reply.
Im a bit more concerned about making the corners a bit even. They dogs do some damage!
Hi @Ausgill,
You should be able to shape the corners relatively well using a Joint Knife to carefully shape it, but you can also use an External Corner Trowel to get a nice sharp edge, then tidy things up with some sanding.
Let me know what you think and if you have further questions, please don't hesitate to ask.
