How to get window box and walls flush?

Hello!

We are up to the wall stage of our bathroom reno.

We are not replacing our current bathroom window, opting to just give it a refresh. However, we are doing floor to ceiling tile, whereas before there was just board (villaboard/aquacheck/etc)
The current window box currently juts out about 10mm all around.

Once the villaboard (9mm), tile adhesive and then tiles (10mm) are on, the walls will then sit out further than the window box.

What would be the best option at this point? We hadn't

planned on tiling in the window frame/box but also not averse to it if we need to.

Any input would be welcomed.

Added to say: We will be getting professionals in for the tiling.

We were going to add a window trim post tiling, but that will still leave the gap between the trim and the box!

Hi @Kelli-H,

Tiling the window frame can actually be advantageous, especially in a moisture-prone environment like a bathroom. Tiles handle condensation and splashes much better than painted timber, and any moisture that collects can usually just evaporate or be wiped away. Painted timber frames, on the other hand, are notorious for water ingress and eventual rotting if they’re not perfectly sealed.

If you prefer not to tile the frame, that’s fine too. Just make sure the timber is painted and sealed really well. You can then use tile trims to neatly finish the edges of your tiles and cover the adhesive. Essentially, you frame around the window box with the trims and tile right up to them, giving a clean, professional-looking junction without needing to tile the timber itself.

Finishing edges like this, when the tiles transition to another surface, is commonplace for tilers and they'll know exactly how to deal with it.
