How can i cover this
Hi @jaswantkochhar,
The easiest and neatest option I can think of would be to build a simple frame around the pit using 70 x 35mm H3-treated pine. That size is easy to work with, strong enough for this kind of job, and suitable for outdoor use. You can screw the frame directly into the treated pine sleepers so it’s solid and secure.
Once the basic rectangular frame is built, you can clad it with either treated pine boards or merbau decking to match the surrounding area. Fix the boards horizontally across the top and/or down the sides depending on the look you’re going for. This will create a clean, boxed-in finish that blends in nicely and gives you a flat surface on top, perfect for placing a pot plant or decorative feature.
If you need occasional access to the pit, you can simply unscrew the top boards when required. If you’d like something a bit more refined, you could add some additional framing at the top and install hinges so the lid lifts open. A simple finger hole or small recessed pull would finish it off neatly.
I’ve created the renderings below to help visualise how the frame and cladding would come together and how the finished boxed section could look in place.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
