How to capture roof cleaner run-off?

I plan on using one of the 30 seconds range to clean my colorbond roof. I believe the active ingredient is benzalkonium chloride.

The instructions say that if the roof gutters are connected to a water tank, the pipes need to be disconnected.

I don't have a water tank but I'm not sure about what to do about potential run-off into the stormwater drains. Is it necessary to capture any run-off and, if so, how might I go about that?

You only need to disconnect your downpipes if they’re connected to a rainwater tank that collects and stores the runoff for reuse. The instruction is there to prevent treated water entering your tank supply. If your gutters discharge directly to stormwater, there’s no requirement to disconnect them, as products like 30 Seconds are formulated to comply with relevant standards for general exterior cleaning use.

That said, it’s worth noting that while 30 Seconds is suitable for coloured steel, COLORBOND® recommends cleaning their roof sheeting with warm water and a small amount of mild dishwashing liquid, applied with a soft bristle brush or cloth. For warranty purposes, they do not recommend the use of chemical cleaners.

If maintaining your COLORBOND® warranty is important to you, it would be safest to follow the manufacturer’s cleaning guidelines.
