How to fix patio drainage?

Hi,

I've just had my pool area redone with travertine. I knew drainage would be an issue, however will probably have to be sooner than I thought… It slopes down to the corner of travertine, but also drains off further up in between white posts a lot. There is a downpipe on the corner of the house in photo.

How should I go about draining this? Long term the rest of the area will probably be tiled.

There are slimline options like the Everhard compact channel that are only 80mm deep @Chris131993. Whether that's all the way through really depends on how thick the concrete slab is.

Thanks for the reply Mitch. Can the concrete be recessed without going all the way through? There is a mains water line hard up against it underneath I’d like to avoid.

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @Chris131993. It's fatastic to have you join us and many thanks for your question on drainage.

The best long-term solution will likely be to have a drainage channel installed in the lower area immediately after the newly tiled pool section, as marked in your image. The trench can be properly graded to fall toward the end of the tiled area and then connected into the existing stormwater pipe, ideally tying into the downpipe at the corner of the house. This will capture the surface water before it spreads between the posts, prevent pooling in the low corner, and provide a controlled discharge point into the stormwater system.

You'll need a concrete cutting company to come out and cut the trench for you, and you'll also need to enlist the services of a drainage plumber to make connections to your stormwater.

When the rest of the area is tiled in the future, the falls can also be adjusted slightly to direct more water toward the trench drain to ensure consistent and effective drainage.
