I've had some mixed advice about the safety of using foil-lined insulation with roof-based electrical wiring in an outdoor laundry & I'd be grateful for some advice.
All the work would be done by a licensed professional.
Hi @Else ,
We’d probably need a bit more information to give precise advice, specifically what the safety concerns are, exactly where the insulation is being installed, and the route of the electrical wiring.
Foil-backed insulation is commonly used around electrical wiring in roofs and ceilings in Australia, provided it’s installed correctly and in accordance with current electrical and building standards. Care must be taken to keep insulation clear of junction boxes or connections that could overheat, and licensed professionals are trained to maintain these clearances and ensure compliance.
It’s worth noting that foil-based insulation products are not permitted for use in New Zealand under current regulations, so requirements can vary depending on location.
If you can share a bit more detail about the layout or type of wiring, we can provide more tailored guidance for your outdoor laundry. Alternatively, standard bulk insulation batts are also a suitable option if you prefer to avoid foil-backed products.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
