How to hang heavy curtain from hollow brick wall?

We have a 2.4m (h) x 1.6m (w) window we plan to hang a 2m curtain rod for a reasonable heavy (blackout) curtain. It’s a single panel curtain so can’t have a middle bracket. It’s being hung on a new hollow brick wall and we have a strong rod to hold it. Our query is, what is the best anchor to stabilise the brackets it in the wall?

There are two main factors here to consider. The weight of the curtain, and the fact these are hollow bricks.

Without knowing the weight of the curtain, the best thing we can do is absolutely maximise the weight bearing capacity of your fixings. For example, these Ramset 8 x 80mm Long Anchor RamPlugs can be used in hollow brick and are capable of supporting 30kg each when used with suitable 10-14g screws that are at least 50-75mm long. I imagine your brackets have at least two screw holes, so with 4 fixing points, you should be able to support up to 120kg, assuming the curtain rod is strong enough to distribute this weight horizontally to the brackets.

If you run into issues because the bricks are hollow, Ramset have a system which uses ChemSet 101, Ramset Multifit Sieves and anchor studs. This option is likely overkill, but if you have issues with the RamPlugs, it is the best option to guarantee you get a suitably strong hold in the bricks.
