How to hang blind with insufficient space for cup hook attachment?

I am trying to hang a bamboo blind. The instructions were to use 3 x cup hooks screwed horizontally into the window frame, and then weave the pre-attached circular rings over these hooks. However, I have found that there is not enough space between the cup hooks and the top of the window frame to allow me to manoeuvre the pre-attached rings so they are at the correct angle to hook over the top of the cup hook. When I try to do this, the wooden bar at the top of the curtains hits into the top of the window frame.

I am hoping for your help in coming up a solution - perhaps attaching a split ring to the pre-attached rings to give me a bit more space to manoeuvre although this may cause the blind attachment to be less secure. Alternatively, maybe I could swap the cup hook for an L hook so the rings could slide on more easily?

I can’t screw the cup hooks hanging vertically because the blind does not fit within the window frame dimensions so has to sit in front.

Thank you for sharing your question about your bamboo blind. Your proposal of using a split ring to hook the blind to the wall hook is excellent. It should provide you with the necessary space to hook it in and you don't have to attach anything else to the window frame.

However, another option is to pad the edge of the window frame with timber. It would be possible to install 42 x 42mm 2.7m Merbau Pre-Oiled Solid Screening or similar onto the timber edge of the window frame and then install the hook onto the Merbau piece. This would in essence push the hook 42mm forward giving you enough space to install the bamboo blinds hook.

The wood frame option is a good idea but might try the split rings for ease and see if that works!

Do you have a recommendation of which split rings I should buy? I can see there are some heavy duty ones available on marketplace but would love to get in person if possible!

I suggest looking at the Taskmaster 35mm Stainless Steel Key Ring - 5 Pack or similar. These key rings should be big enough to give you the space to hook the bamboo blinds and the wall hooks together.

This should be pretty easy. Simply turn the hooks anticlockwise to a point the hooks can access the loop (about 10pm). Then attach the blind and rotate the hooks back again.

Hi @KMc1,

If @Nailbag's idea doesn't work, you could also try just pulling the hooks downwards with a piece of string or something like a shoelace while slipping the blind in place. There might be enough flex in the hook that you can slip the blind over it while it is still in place.

I was think along the same lines as @Nailbag. I have used a blade of a screwdriver to turn cup hooks when its been a tight situation, either that or I have soift fingers lol

My parents had this issue at their house. They would swap the cup hooks out for small screw-in eyelets (closed loops) and then hang the blind from mini S-hooks. S-hooks give you a lot more forgiveness because you can hook them onto the blind first, then simply lift the whole blind up and drop the S-hooks into the eyelets from the front.
