My wooden bench seat creaks and sags a little when people sit on it, what options do I have to strengthen this? Thanks in advance!
Hi @rochellepickard,
Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community, it is fantastic to have you with us.
Is it the metal frame that sags, or just the timber boards?
My solution would be more or less the same either way, you would just attach things slightly differently. I'd suggest running two additional horizontal supports in the locations shown below. You can use 42 x 19mm Merbau for these supports.
If the boards are predominantly what is sagging, cut the merbau so that it sits between the frame and screw these supports to the timber using Zenith 10G x 30mm Galvanised Countersunk Head Timber Screws.
If the frame is what is sagging, cut them so they are long enough to sit over the frame, and attach them to the metal frame using Buildex 8G x 30mm Metal Screws.
Let me know what you think and if you have further questions, please don't hesitate to ask.
