How to revamp cement table?

Hi,

I purchased this second hand cement table and there is some discolouration. I would like to paint this in black as i don't think i will be able to get the colour uniformly fixed. I'm wondering what type of paint and process required to get this job done. TIA

It’s quite likely that your table has some type of matt sealant on the surface, which can prevent paints from adhering properly. Because of this, the requirements of your project are outside the typical usage of most household paints. If we presume the table is bare cement, you would first need to apply a primer suitable for porous surfaces, such as Dulux 1L Precision White Sealer Binder, before painting. After that, you could use a durable paint like Dulux Aquanamel in black. However, as mentioned, this would be outside the usual expectations of these products, and the longevity of the finish will depend heavily on the cement substrate underneath.

Another possibility is to use spray cans, but again, these are not designed for coating cement and may not provide a durable or uniform finish.

Just from another perspective, there's nothing about the table's appearance that screams discolouration to me. If you are referring to the white marks, then if I didn't know any better, they just look like very convincing natural marks you'd see on a concrete service, and I think they add to the industrial/brutalist look, rather than detract from it.
