How to fix showerhead tap mixer?

Question

Hi guys, I need help. My ensuite shower tap mixer does not ignite the continuous flow water heater. Water heater comes on all the rest of the taps but just that particular shower tap mixer.

I have checked there is no water flow restrictor on the shower head . I have changed the tap mixer cartridge. I have cleaned water heater filter but none of these steps worked.

I need help please guide me what else I am missing. Do I need to call plumber or is it something I can fix?

Hi @imeemakhna,

The number one reason for a water heater not igniting is water flow below its required threshold. If you've replaced the showerhead and this issue has only started since then, it would be likely that the new head does not allow enough flow. Have you done a bucket test and measured the number of litres per minute and compared that to the heater specifications?

If it's not a water flow issue, then the next step would be to enlist the services of a plumber to take a look at the system for you.

Thanks Eric. But if the hot water pipe is blocked then it would have reduced water flow or no water at all but water flow is not reduced. That is why I am confused

Just a friendly reminder that any plumbing work must be carried out by a registered plumber for safety and compliance.

Some shower mixers are not compatible with continuous hot water systems. If you have recently upgraded your shower mixer, I suggest checking the instructions or packaging to see if they are compatible with continuous hot water systems. Another possible cause is that there is something blocking the hot water pipe in the shower mixer which prevents the hot water system from activating.

In both cases, I recommend engaging the services of a registered plumber as the repair steps might be complex and involved.
