Galvanised Steel Fencing for Screening - how to fix rails?

Hello All,

I am installing ekodeck castellated panel screening. I'm looking to install a steel frame to fix this too.

I'm now looking to use 50 x 50mm Gal Steel posts set into concrete roughy 1.8 - 2m high. I plan to run 38 x 25mm rails. I want these to run between each post, not across the face. (so not using a saddle bracket).

What is the best way to do this? I have come accros these brackets for pool fences ProtectorAl 38 x 25mm Black Aluminium Pool And Garden Fence Panel Brackets - 4 Pack which I'm unsure if these would be suitable given the use and weight. The other option could be reinforced brackets. Which look to be quite durable and heavy duty.

I'm sure i'm not the first to try do this, I expected there to be something similar to this - Double Lug Fence Bracket but for the smaller rail size.

Any suggestions or expert advise would be amazing!

Because this is a bit of a custom install using off-the-shelf parts, it’s a little tricky to give a definitive answer on suitability. To get closer, could you let us know how far apart your posts will be and how many rails you plan to run per section?

For example, if your posts were 1200 mm apart and you were running three rails (which is the typical requirement for castellated panels), then the ProtectorAl 38 × 25 mm Black Aluminium Pool and Garden Fence Panel Brackets would likely be fine.

The spacing and number of rails will help determine whether the brackets can support the weight and maintain stability, or if you’d need something heavier-duty.

They will be mostly 1.8m with a couple of sections that are 2.2m.

Yes plan would be to run 3 rails.

If you’re planning to run the panels horizontally, so that they’re directly connected to the posts as well as the rails, the ProtectorAl 38 × 25 mm brackets should be fine.

However, if you intend to run the panels vertically, with their full weight resting on the rails, I’d lean toward using the more heavy-duty brackets. The pool and garden fence brackets are really designed for lighter fencing and may not reliably support the full vertical weight of the castellated panels.

or should the rail size be increased also

That doesn't appear to be drastically different to the Protector version, @JesseS6. My concern is more the span between your posts and the potential sagging of the rails over that distance. Increasing the rail size would be an option, or reducing the distance between posts.
