How to waterproof shower in stages?

Hi, I'm ready to waterproof my shower area after demo of the old tiles. The floor has been screeded and is ready however I need to wait for some pipework for the shower before the walls will be ready. I have the Bastion wet area product. Do I need to waterproof the whole area in one go, or can I do the floor and wall to about knee height now, then do the rest of the walls later - ensuring to overlap the later coat over the earlier? Thanks

Just a friendly reminder that waterproofing your wet area (specifically the shower area) will need to be carried out by a council certified/trained professional as it will need to be signed off. Ideally it would be best to have all the plumbing and rendering finished so that the application can be done in one go. It needs to be a homogenous layer with no gaps or joins in order to provide a watertight seal around the area.

My best advice is to give the cemented areas enough time to fully cure so as not to trap moisture under the waterproofing.

Though you can waterproof your bathroom yourself, there are variations between the states as to the coverage. Typically it’s the full height of the shower and out past the sides by 150mm. Then the entire floor and up 150mm. Then 2-3coats allowing 24hrs inbetween. Joins need to be taped and all plumbing openings siliconed.

Personally though I’m very capable of doing this myself having renovated multiple bathrooms, I always get my tiler to do it as he is certified and the job comes with a certificate. This ensures any issues down track is covered by insurance.

All the examples I know of have had the waterproofing done in one go, It would probarlly be nice to get sections done early so they are out of the way but one continuios layer makes sense.

Having the waterproofing certified for your insurance is another part. It needs to be signed off by a certified installer otherwise you will have issues down the track if you end up with water damage. Its one of the jobs I would get done by the trades people for sure.
