How to fix Coolaroo outdoor sunblind that unrolls?

my blind at the spring end is not right , if i roll the blind up by hand the blind then just unrolls to the ground, there is no tension on it and im not sure if the end is locking in properly. Is there a way to replace the end or take it apart or how to wind by hand . nothing ive tried so far has done any good. jeff

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community, it is fantastic to have you with us.

I've found a few examples from Coolaroo that might show the solution depending on the type of roller blind you have installed.

Steps 8.1, 8.2 and 8.3 in the Coolaroo Retractable Blind Instructions show how to tension one type of their blinds.

The process shown in Coolaroo Spring Operated Roller Shades - Assembly Guide shows another.

Also, there is How to Set Up Your Coolaroo Easy Release Outdoor Roller Shades.

Can I trouble you to have a look at these three options and let me know if any of them resemble your blinds?

If not, can you grab a few more photos of showing both brackets and the blind carriage removed from them?

If we can identify the specific type of blinds, this will definitely help.

thanks jacob, it is the first link and i already saw that but as i say if i roll the blind up it just unravels. my brackets are the same as that install instructions. jeff

When still installed in the brackets, if you give it a short sharp tug, like mentioned in step 8.3, do you feel it do anything? Is there any tension at all?

If you can't feel any tension, then it sounds like the tensioning mechanism may have broken, in which case, unfortunately, you are likely going to need to look at replacing the blind.

no cant feel any tension and the blind just unrolls if i hand wind it up, even the end part comes out a little bit but cant pull it all the way out and i dont think you sell the same blinds any more, can it be tentioned by turning the flat end by hand and if so which direction. jeff

Have you got a photo of the flat end that you are referring to?

Based on what I can see from their instructions, if it were to work, winding it against the direction of the blind would make sense to me. It is certainly worth a try and can't really hurt.

If you can snap a few more photos of the blinds and have a look for a model number or identifying mark, I could certainly reach out to Coolaroo when they reopen on Monday to see if they have any advice or if a replacement blind can be ordered.

Hi Jacob, the photo i provided at the top is the flat end and with the same bracket as in the first link (pdf file) there is no model number on these blinds . the right hand side has a round pin. Pleas e see if coolaroo can help at all, these are very old but at one stage was taken down and put in storage for a few years. i have 2 of them, one is up and working but this one has a problem. jeff

We've sent a query to Coolaroo in regards to your roller blind. We'll follow them up tomorrow to see if they have any recommendations in regards to repairing your blind.

Hi @jeffadelaide,

I've just spoken with Coolaroo's team, who think the likely cause is a broken or damaged tensioning spring inside the blind mechanism. They have also unfortunately confirmed that your particular model of retractable blinds has been discontinued for some time now and unfortunately, they do not have replacement parts available.

At this point, unfortunately, your best option is to remove and replace the blind.
