I need to attach verandah posts to a galavanised steel frame, how can I attach a 90mm stirrup to steel?
Hi @HarryEdge,
Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community, it is wonderful to have you with us.
If you have engineered plans for your verandah, then it will dictate the specific hardware required for attaching your posts to stirrups.
Typically, they would call for galvanised bolts such as these ZENITH M10 x 120mm Hot Dip Galvanised Cup Head Bolts & Nuts with a washer on each side of the post.
This would require you to drill a pilot hole through each side of the post so the bolts can pass through the stirrup and post. This can be done with a 10.5mm Cobalt Drill Bit.
Let me know if you have any further questions.
Jacob
Thanks Jacob, this part is straightforward,it is simple to insert the verandah post and bolt it to the stirrup. I am talking about attaching the stirrup to the frame, either to the timber deck bearer and/or deck joists, or to the galvanised steel frame that supports the deck bearer and deck joists.
Not sure I follow.
Are you building a new deck, or are you attaching something new to an existing structure?
Do you have a photo or drawing you can share of the situation you are struggling with?
When you can add a few more details I can certainly assist further.

Ok, now I understand.
You could use Pryda 90mm M12 Heavy Duty Bolt Down Post Anchors, and attach them in the same fashion, with a couple of bolts through the base, that pass down through the steel frame.
You would then use the horizontal holes to bolt your bearer or joist to the stirrup.
If you have any further questions, please don't hesitate to ask.
