How to make a terrazzo top for a bathroom vanity?

Hi there, as part of a bathroom renovation I have a plan to use repurpose an old oak cabinet as a bathroom vanity. For the top I'd like to use some 400x400x17 terrazzo tiles that I am also using on the floor.

I'm looking for advice on how to prepare the top of the cabinet, whether a substrate is needed for the tiles, and how/ when to cut out holes in the terrazzo for a basin (semi-inset) and taps.

I'm sorry, but I am not familiar with the Pre sealer product you are referring to. I propose contacting the manufacturer of the sealer and asking them what exact tile adhesive is compatible with their sealer. I don't want to make any recommendations that may not work with your preferred sealer.

Hi Eric, thanks for that. I think the instructions  are for the pre-sealer to be applied to all surfaces (by dip sealing).. Here's what they say in the product info could you have a look advise if that Davco SMP Evo TIle Adhesive is still the best way to go? Thanks!

Below surface technology: Aqua Mix penetrating sealers cure just below the surface of the stone or tile rather than on top of the surface and hence are not coatings. In doing so they allow an appropriate adhesive to bond to the back of the stone/tile.

Penetrating Sealer/Adhesive interaction: As the sealer reduces the water absorption of the sealed surface to almost zero the sealed stone/tile must be considered as a very dense material when selecting your adhesive. Using an adhesive that is recommended for dense materials, such as granite and porcelain, and ensuring that proper wetting out techniques are used during adhesive application (and full adhesive coverage) are imperative to a successful installation.

I suspect that the tile manufacturer is referring to the surface of the tile that has to be pre-sealed. The bottom of the tile should in essence still be raw and open in order for the tile adhesive to work. However, if the tile is not yet sealed, I suggest sealing it after it has been installed onto your vanity top.

In regards to the adhesive, I suggest using the Davco 20kg SMP Evo Tile Adhesive, it is a flexible, cement-based tile adhesive specifically designed for premium stone, marble and porcelain tiles. It's also suitable for swimming pools and spas which makes it perfect for wet areas such as the surface of your vanity.
