How to repair strip between shower and tiles?

Hi Bunnings community,

Hoping that someone can help with this fairly minor repair job.

As you can see below, the black paint has come off the shower strip. Does anyone have any tips on how to go about fixing this?

I've seen a comment on another thread where someone recommended repainting it with this Metalshield Epoxy Enamel Gloss Paint. Would this work here and are there any other steps I'd need to do?

Also, the remaining black paint is pretty tough to get off. Is there a product that would be helpful to use here?

This is definitely a repair you can tackle yourself with a bit of prep work. The key to getting a long-lasting finish is proper surface preparation.

Start by sanding the remaining loose and flaking paint off with 180-grit sandpaper. Since you have mentioned the existing paint is quite tough to remove, you may need to put in a bit of effort, but focus on removing any poorly adhered sections and feathering the edges where the paint has lifted. Once that is done, sand the entire strip with 240-grit sandpaper to smooth the surface and remove any remaining surface residues or gloss. This will help the new coating bond properly.

After sanding, wipe the strip down thoroughly with a clean cloth to remove all dust. You can use a damp cloth and allow it to dry completely before painting. Carefully tape up the surrounding tiles and shower area and use plastic drop sheets to protect nearby surfaces.

Before applying your top coat, it is a good idea to use an etch primer. This will help key the surface and improve adhesion, especially for an aluminium strip. Allow the primer to cure as per the instructions on the can. Once cured, apply two coats of Metalshield Epoxy Enamel Gloss Paint, following the recommended recoat times on the label. Apply thin, even coats for the best finish.
