How to fix mouldy ceiling?

Hey all, got a moldy patch on the ceiling in the garage of this house I just moved into.

The area in the photo is about 1m wide.

The colorbond roof has been previously patched for a leak right above this spot, and I've got someone coming to check the roof out in a few days just to verify that side of things is all good.

But how do I go about fixing this moldy patch? Is it just a case of cutting out the damaged area and putting something new up?

If you are getting a tradesperson in, I suggest asking them about treating the area and replacing the ceiling panel as well. This is on the condition that they do this type of service as well. Removing and replacing the panel is pretty how its going to happen, however, it all depends on how severe the mould infestation is. Just to be on the safe side, I suggest engaging the services of a tradesperson who is familiar with treating mould infestation and ceiling repairs. They'll be able to treat the area and fix the panel in one go.

I've repaired a lot of mould affected ceilings and yours is one of the worst examples. It simply means it's beyond repair due to the depth (how black) of the mould. Plus I can see the paper at the rear seating to peel away. So, I would replace the entire section with new. A decent handyman could do that job as I suspect that its not plasterboard but possibly a timber panel due to the thickness.

I would be replacing that section of ceiling. Im not sure if its plaster or timber (that paper peeling that @Nailbag has mentioned makes me think its plaster) but teh thickness also looks like plywood. "Shrug" Whichever way it needs to go. Id make sure I wear a face mask for mould when you do. No point breathing it in. When you remove it you will be able to see whare the moisture has come from and verify its from the area of the roof that has been repaired.
