How to treat Woolly Bush with grey branch?

Hi all, I planted a few small Woolly Bush plants in my back garden 3 days ago and one of them seems to have a branch(?) starting to turn grey (photos attached). We added fertilizer when planting and have watered it twice so far. Is this a problem and if so, how can I fix it? Any advice is much appreciated!

Thanks so much for sharing that photo. From what I can see, the plant overall looks healthy, and the grey section in the middle appears to be a single shoot that is either stressed or has died back slightly. Given that you only planted them three days ago, this is most likely transplant shock rather than a serious problem.

Woolly Bush can be a bit sensitive after planting, especially if fertilizer was added directly into the planting hole. Their roots don’t love strong fertilizers right away, and sometimes a small section of growth will grey off if the roots are adjusting or slightly stressed. It can also happen from a bit of wind exposure or minor root disturbance during planting.

At this stage I would gently trim off the greyed shoot back to healthy green growth. That will encourage the plant to redirect energy into fresh growth. Make sure the soil is well draining, as Woolly Bush do not like sitting in wet soil. Watering twice in three days is fine if the weather has been warm, but going forward let the top few centimetres of soil dry slightly before watering again. They prefer consistent but not soggy moisture.

If you want to support it, a light application of a seaweed solution can help reduce transplant stress without the harshness of regular fertilizer. I would avoid adding any more fertilizer for a few weeks while it settles in.

Overall, it doesn’t look like a major issue, and the plant should bounce back nicely once its roots establish. You’re doing all the right things, and it’s great you’re keeping a close eye on them.
