How to insulate windows (ceiling to floor) in a rental apartment?

Question

I wished to get to know the best possible way to insulate ceiling to floor windows on a western side facing apartment. it gets hot enough to warrant leaving the AC turned on constantly.

I wished to know what ways can i insulate the windows.

I have seen window tints being mentioned a lot, but strata by laws prohibit it.

Whoops, almost forgot the pics :) I am yet to post this project but here are a couple of pics showing the idea.

The first photo is behind the curtain (The old blockout curtain wa sneeded as without it the room still let in a large amount of light and some heat. The second photo is the other half, there is a vernetian blind between the discs and the window. It seems to ++ add to the sun blocking characteristics.

I was thinking of a reflective backed curtain hung either between the existing one and teh door or shirtingthe one next to the door out a little and hanging a reflective curtain there. And by reflective I mean silvered :) It stays down during the summer and you roll it up and store it during winter.

I came up with this CD/DVD wall as an alternative to an outright refective surface. It works really well, drops the heat by around 2/3rds from what it was.

I have just been installing the same style in my back room, I have the same lack of space with existing curtains and venitians. I will see if I can post a photo later but it still manages to handle the heat betetr then what it was before the CD wall.

Cheap as in its paperclips, large cup hooks and timber trim.

I think that suggestion by @EricL is a great start as securing the film via velcro dots to the glaze. It isn't a permanent solution that couldn't be very easily removed and would expect no permission required.

An additional solution with permission and if possible, is to hang something like this lightweight roll-up blind in front of the window using screw in hooks and eyelets. This would shield the glass from direct sunlight and the gap in-between adds a cooling layer of insulation.
