How to extend floating flooring into garage?

Hi,

I am wanting to extend my floating floor into my garage. Do I

:

• Need to remove skirtings, or just cut into them
• Lay anything under the flooring or above the cement?

Hi @Samc1234,

For skirting boards, you would typically remove them, install the floating floor up to the wall, and then re‑install the skirting at the correct height above the new flooring.

In your photo, it looks like you’re showing a door frame and jamb. In that case, you would cut the bottom of the frame and jamb so the flooring can slip underneath, similar to what’s been done on the side where your floor has already been installed.

If you notice any dampness in the concrete, it’s also advisable to add an underlay with vapour barrier under the flooring to help protect it from moisture.
