How to treat corrugated iron roof rust?

I need some advice in regards to rust treatment. Here is the problem. There are rust areas that need to be treated but the problem is, the area concerned has been previously painted.

What are ones options ?

I have heard of rust converter but the surface being previously painted is a problem.

Hi Carlo, Take a look at this amazing product, VersEseal. It's a rust converter, primer and a sealer that can be painted over. I have a 50 year olf shed and it had some rust areas on the corrugated iron roof and I used the product to help the roof last another 50 years.

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's sensational to have you join us, and thanks for sharing your question about the rust on your corrugated roof.

I suggest cleaning the rust spots with a steel brush or sandpaper depending on the severity of the rust. It's ok to sand away some of the paint as my next suggestion will be to apply the rust converter only on the affected area (rust converter not applicable to Colorbond roofing). Please make sure to wipe the area clean with a rag before applying the rust converter. Once the converter has fully activated and dried off, I suggest using the White Knight 1L Rust Guard Quick Dry SLS Etch Primer Paint. I also recommend using the White Knight Rust Guard Gloss White Epoxy Enamel Paint for your top coat tinted in the colour of your choice.
