Hi guys,
Can you please suggest what I can use to secure the curtain rail bracket on the plasterboard wall as it does not have stud at that point. Curtains are heavy as there are 2 rods 1 for sheer and 1 for blackout curtain
Hello @imeemakhna
Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's sensational to have you join us and thanks for sharing your question about hanging curtains.
I suggest having a quick look at these guides - How to repair and install a curtain rail and How to hang just about anything by @Adam_W. My best suggestion is to use fixing kits that provide backing support and not just screw into the material of the plasterboard. You'll see in the guide that it was suggested to use Ramset M5 x 9mm Plasterboard Hollow Wall Anchor or Ramset 3 / 16" x 50mm Round Head Toggle Spring for heavy curtains.
However, please keep in mind that plasterboard has a load limit and if that limit is crossed it will tear out the fixings. My other suggestion is to see if you can screw into the frame of the window itself. This is on the condition that you have a timber framed window. If it is made of metal or aluminium, it would be easier to install it on the plasterboard wall.
If you have any other questions we can help with, please let us know.
Eric
Thanks Eric. What size drill bit should I use for Ramset 3 / 16" x 50mm Round Head Toggle Spring?
Hi @imeemakhna,
They require around a 10mm hole. Just large enough to squeeze the fitting through in a compressed state. This Kango 10mm HSS Drill Bit would suit.
