Project Description
I looked for ways to recycle wooden cotton reels I came across in an op shop. An internet referred to shelves so I set about making it happen
Materials
Boyles Hobby Wood Model Pack for the shelves
Eight recycled wooden cotton reels and a length of dowel.
The dowel and Boyles Hobby Wood Model Pack was purchased at Bunnings
Tools
PVA wood glue supplied with the Hobby Wood Pack, A Stanley knife and a carpenters pencil.
Step 1
Firstly I measured the dowel length to secure two cotton reels together then glued and threaded each.m together. It repeated this process four times to make the pillars for the shelves. After allowing them to dry. I used the base of each pillar trace an outline on the base of the shelves, then I cut holes with the Stanley knife and glued and positioned each pillar. There were two on each end. I then repeated the process on the top shelf and then cut corresponding holes. I then glued and fitted the top shelf to complete the shelves as pictured. I have put it aside to dry then I’ll apply a light wax to finish the item which is prefect to display Diecast cars etc. A good use of recycled fifty year old wooden cotton reels. It cost in total $30 for the Bunnings sourced materials with plenty left over for other projects.
