Hi I bought a Gardena water timer, and a water distributor with 6 lines.I have one capped off. The timer has just stopped turning on the right line. It was all working correctly recently.
Could you please assist/ advise.
Regards
Hi @Peter 29,
Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community, it is fantastic to have you with us.
Hi Peter,
If you’ve got some photos and model numbers of the parts, that would certainly help.
If it was all working recently and one outlet has suddenly stopped coming on, it is usually something fairly simple rather than a full failure. We can work through it step by step.
First, check the basics on the water distributor itself. Make sure the outlet that is not running is not accidentally turned off or partially closed at the small tap on that port. Even a slight knock can turn them.
Next, swap the irrigation lines over. Disconnect the line from the outlet that is not working and connect it to a different working outlet. Then connect one of the known working lines to the outlet that is not running. Run the timer and see what happens. If the “fault” follows the line, you may have a blockage in the hose, dripper line, or fitting. If the same outlet still does not activate regardless of which line is attached, the issue is likely in the distributor.
Check for debris inside the non-working port. Turn off the tap, remove the distributor from the timer, and inspect the inlet filter washer for dirt or grit. Also, look inside the affected outlet for small stones, plastic flash, or insect debris. A quick rinse can sometimes fix it.
It is also worth checking the water pressure. These multi-outlet distributors need adequate pressure to index or switch between ports. If pressure has dropped recently, for example due to a partially closed tap or a pressure regulator issue, the unit may not advance properly and can get “stuck” on certain outlets.
If your Gardena distributor is the automatic sequential type that rotates internally, the internal gear mechanism can occasionally stick. Sometimes disconnecting it, giving it a gentle shake, and flushing clean water through it will free it up.
Also, check the timer itself. Replace the batteries if it is battery-operated, even if the display looks fine. Low batteries can cause valves to open weakly or not complete cycles properly.
If, after swapping lines and checking for blockages, the same outlet still will not activate, the distributor’s internal mechanism may have failed. If it is only recently purchased, it would be worth taking it back with your receipt for assessment or replacement under warranty.
Let me know how you go and if you have further questions, please don't hesitate to ask.
