How to remove dried ivy vines off brick wall?

We have removed ivy from a brick wall and need recommendations please on how to remove the remaining dried vines. We have tested small patches with a hard bristle (plastic) brush, power washing (was concerned with damage to bricks), and flame with brushing. Someone recommended hydrochloride (diluted), is this the last option before needing to just clad or paint the brick?

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community, it is wonderful to have you with us.

I wouldn't suggest you use hydrochloric acid as anything but a last resort because it can etch bricks, damage mortar, and cause uneven colour changes.

Instead, I'd suggest you start by using a wall scraper such as this QEP 4" Floor and Wall Razor Scraper, or this DTA 150mm Heavy Duty Floor Scraper if you need more reach.

If it is not budging, allowing the wall to dry out fully for a few weeks can also help. As the remaining tendrils dry completely, they become more brittle and often scrape off more cleanly with less effort.

Once the majority has been removed, you can use a stiff bristled broom to brush away the remnants of the ivy. Follow this with a gentle low-pressure rinse if needed, keeping the nozzle at a shallow angle and avoiding direct spraying into mortar joints.

If any ivy, or residue remains, you can use a brick cleaner such as this Chemtech Brick Tile And Paver Cleaner alongside your stiff bristled broom to remove it.
