How to install laundry shelf?

Hi brains trust,

I am creating a shelf in my laundry cupboard (pictured) with CustomPine particle board. I have cut supports for the shelf which will go around the perimeter of the cupboard. I was wondering which screws would be best for attaching the particleboard to the wall (through the studs) and also what screws would be appropriate for securing the main shelf to the particleboard supports. For reference the space is 1.220m long x .599m wide.

If you are screwing into the studs, I suggest using the Zenith 8G x 60mm Countersunk Rib Head Chipboard Screws. To screw the shelf into the particle board, I recommend the Zenith 8G x 40mm Countersunk Rib Head Chipboard Screws. My best advice is to drill pilot holes for all the fittings so that the particle board does not split or fracture.

Please double check your distances before you start drilling. Please make sure to wear personal protection such as gloves, goggles and a mask when working on your project.

Hi team,

Just realised one side of the cupboard (closest to the front door) doesn't appear to have a stud. In that case, would I be better off just using wall anchors or an alternative for all 3 walls?

Hi @Mary7,

You should screw into the studs where possible and use plasterboard anchors if there is no other option. The downside to plasterboard anchors is that you must observe their carrying weight capacity and not exceed it with the weight of the objects and the shelf.
