Just bought a new Bunnings Meyer lemon tree, about 1 metre tall. Bought it with a stake attached at 3 points of the tree - I've since repotted it into a big 50l pot (put outside). Should I keep the stake or is it best to remove it?
Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @cli1001. It's tremendous to have you join us and many thanks for your question on lemon trees.
It would be really helpful if we could see your lemon tree, so feel free to upload some images. Just let me know if you need any assistance with uploading them.
At about 1 metre tall, your Meyer lemon tree likely has enough developed roots to support itself upright in its new 50 L pot. However, if you’ve placed it in a spot that gets strong winds, it’s a good idea to keep it staked until it settles into its new environment. That said, staking won’t harm the tree, so if you feel it could benefit from some extra support, it’s perfectly fine to leave the stake in place for now.
If the stake it had previously is a bit small, I'd recommend some hardwood stakes and soft plant ties.
