How to calibrate Ozito 254mm sliding compound mitre saw?

Just purchased the saw (SCMS-2125) and I have started calibrating. I have noticed that the blade will hit the side of the trench when it is all the way out. When it is in it sits in the middle of the trench.

This is brand new and I have not even turned it on yet.

Any idea on what the problem is (I have checked the saw blade and it is sitting properley) or should I take it back to Bunnings for a warranty replacement. This units is kiterally straight out of the box!!

Congratulations on your new Ozito SCMS-2125. From what you’re describing, this sounds much more like a slide rail alignment issue than a blade problem. On a sliding compound mitre saw, the blade travels along twin rails. If those rails aren’t perfectly parallel to the table, or if the head assembly is slightly twisted on the rails, the blade can drift sideways as you pull it forward. That would explain why it sits centered in the trench when retracted but shifts and contacts the side when fully extended.

Since the saw is brand new and hasn’t even been powered on, it’s unlikely to be wear-related and more likely a factory alignment issue. With the saw unplugged, try pulling the head fully forward and gently applying light sideways pressure to the motor housing to see if there is any noticeable lateral play. Excessive movement could indicate the carriage needs adjustment. Also, with the saw locked at 0° mitre and 0° bevel, slowly lower the blade into the trench and slide it forward and back by hand, watching whether it consistently drifts to one side. That will confirm whether the slide path itself is misaligned. Please make sure that the slide lock is totally loose and not partially engaged.

It’s also worth checking that the table insert is properly seated and secured, although if the blade is centered at the back of the travel and off at the front, the insert is probably not the cause. I also suggest spinning the blade by hand as well to confirm there’s no wobble and that it’s properly seated on a clean arbor and flange, but based on your description, the issue is unlikely to be blade runout.

If the blade is clearly several millimetres off-center when fully extended, that isn’t something you should expect to correct on a brand-new saw. A sliding mitre saw should track straight out of the box. Misalignment can affect accuracy, increase the risk of binding, and become a safety concern once under load. Given that you haven’t used it yet, I propose returning or exchanging it under warranty. Please remember to bring your docket so that the customer service team can track your purchase.
