How to hang hook from metal window frame?

Hi there

I would like to attach a single cuphook to a metal window frame on my apartment balcony. They are floor to ceiling windows surrounded by a metal frame, so no option to attach to concrete anywhere. I have read that I should use self-tapping screws for this, but this doesn't seem possible with a cuphook. Does anyone have any ideas for how I could attach a hook to the frame?

Likely just a handyperson @jmg233. It's really a matter of ensuring that there isn't glass on the other side of the metal frame, as the screw will pass through the frame due to its length.

Thankyou so much Mitchell, that's really helpful. With regards to getting professional advice for drilling into the windows, what kind of professional should I be looking for? Someone who works specifically with glass? Thankyou

You're correct that you cannot use a standard cuphook, as the provided threads will not screw into the metal. Instead, you would need to use a wall-mounted hook such as the Pinnacle 50mm Matte Black Hanging Hook, Pinnacle 20kg Stainless Steel 304 Wall Mounted Single Hook, Pinnacle 55mm Zinc Plated Clothesline Hook With Plate or Zenith 70mm Zinc Plated Universal Hook - 2 Pack and attach it with Self-tapping metal screws

Bear in mind that the frame of your window is likely not designed to be used as a mounting point and that the glass from the window could be directly behind the frame and within the zone of your screws. If this is the case, then you could risk shattering the window, so if you are not confident in working around glass, I would recommend you reach out to a professional for assistance.

Anytime you do work around glass, it's important to wear PPE, including safety glasses, cut-resistant gloves, a long-sleeved shirt, trousers and enclosed footwear.
