How to replace 2sqm of plaster on brick wall?

Question

Hi, I am trying to fix the wall other side of the shower (inside the dinning room) which was damp, the shower was resealed by a pro about four months ago. I have cleaned the wall and ready to sand it down. The era is about 2sq meters, what plaster should I use and how much is required I have all ready bought the paint from Bunnings. Should I try Gyprock CSR multi-purpose joint compound.

Sorry, @Richard44 I missed that.

You can use Selleys 180g Spakfilla Rapid Gap Filler - 180g to fill the gaps, or CSR 420gm Gyprock DIY One Patch Filler for larger sections. It skim coat the whole wall and give is a fine finish, topcoat compound would be the right product for the job.

Sorry Mitchell, it is a brick wall to be repaired. I have taken off all the loose paint and sanded the the plaster wall, some small bits of the plaster has come off at the bottom of the wall, most of the wall is fine. what can I use to give it a fine finish and fill in the gaps please.

Could we start with a picture of the area? That would help us better understand the extent of the damage you’re trying to repair and provide more accurate advice.

The type of plaster you’ll want to use really depends on how thick a coat will be needed to restore the surface. If you’re only dealing with minor surface imperfections, a topcoat compound would work well. However, if the damage is deeper and requires building the surface back up, a base coat compound would typically be more suitable.

It’s also worth considering how much of the plasterboard panel is affected. There comes a point where, if a significant amount of filler is required over a larger area, it can actually be easier and produce a better result to replace the plasterboard sheet instead of repairing it. When filling large areas, the amount of sanding and finishing needed to achieve a smooth surface can outweigh the effort involved in simply replacing the sheet.

If you can upload a photo of the wall, we’ll be able to guide you more clearly on the best approach.

If, however, your intention is to replace the sheet, then it sounds like you'd need a 2400 x 1200mm sheet of plasterboard, Gyprock CSR multi-purpose joint compound and joint tape. Here's a helpful guide: How to install plasterboard.
