My succulents seems to turn yellow. See attached
. Felt that the leaves are soft. Is it sick? Any chance of rescuing them?
Also, another one seems to have this tiny red thing on it. See attached. Any "meds" for them?
Hi @Ericlim,
It looks like you are dealing with two separate but interrelated issues.
As your succulent is turning yellow and the leaves feel soft, the issue is likely due to overwatering combined with poorly draining soil. Succulent leaves should feel firm and plump. When they sit in soil that holds moisture for too long, the roots can begin to rot, which leads to yellowing, soft texture, and leaves that may drop off easily. If the soil stays wet for several days after watering, it is likely too dense for succulents. It would help to gently remove the plant from its pot and check the roots. Healthy roots are light colored and firm, while rotting roots appear brown or black and mushy. Trim away any damaged roots with clean scissors and repot the plant into a well draining succulent mix such as this Scotts Osmocote Cacti And Succulent Premium Potting Mix. Going forward, only water when the soil is completely dry all the way through.
The tiny red insects you are seeing are aphids. Aphids feed by sucking sap from the plant, which can weaken it and contribute to yellowing and distorted growth. They are common on stressed plants, so the watering issue may have made the plant more vulnerable. Check out How do you get rid of aphids for some guidance on treating them.
Let me know what you think and if you have further questions, please don't hesitate to ask.
