How to install base end and filler panels for laundry reno?

Hello,

I've ordered my kaboodle cabinets for my laundry reno. See design below. I'm a bit confused about the filler and end panels.

If I put a filler panel against the wall for the wall cabinet it will show gaps. do I need an end panel here? Could you please markup and show what panels I need and where?

Hi @Schupfer,

To start, for a basic set, you do not have to use any end panels. Also, to the best of my knowledge, you have no filler panels in your design. A filler panel is used to bridge a gap between two carcasses or if there is a larger gap >20mm between your last cabinet and the wall.

You should try to avoid filler panels as much as possible as they are just wasted space. We always try first to find a combination of different width cabinetry to fill as much of the available space as possible, before resorting to them. Heck, you'd be better off adding a 200mm slimeline wine rack instead of a filler panel. At least you'd be having a good time whilst doing laundry and might have discovered a new design trend.

End panels give a neat transition to an appliance, like your washer, or to the end of a run of cabinetry. What you have are end panels. End panels are a large flat panel that gets screwed to the side of your cabinet, to give it a neat and higher-end look. They could also be used to help fill a gap, if there was only a small gap <20mm, but again, they are not filler panels as such. Their first job is to give a finished in-built look to runs of cabinetry and to improve the look of transitions, whereas a filler panels main job is to fill gaps.

End panels are screwed to the side of the carcass before it is positioned. So, you'd have an end panel on the right of the lower cabinetry, another between the cabinetry and the washer, and then one between the washer and the wall.

Between the washer, the wall cabinet and the wall, you could instead place a tall pantry end panel. This would extend up to the height of your wall cabinet.
