Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community, it is fantastic to have you with us.
Assuming the hose fits over the barbed connector relatively snug, then the only thing you would need to do is use a hose clamp in a suitable size to lock the end of the hose on to the barb.
If your current hose is too large, can you let me know what the outside diameter of your hose is and the outside diameter of the barb is?
If they are relatively standard, then you could simply attach a Nylex 34mm Reducing Joiner to the end of your hose and then clamp it on to the barb like above.
