Dear Bunnings Team,
Could you please provide guidance on the optimal method for repairing the foundation of our weatherboard house? Also, we have observed grass growth extending into our living room. The last picture is the outside of our living area from where the grass came from.
Hi @waqarrasheed,
Unfortunately, it looks like the concrete may have deteriorated due to something like prolonged exposure to moisture. which can cause concrete to weaken over time and begin to crack, crumble, or lose structural strength. Unfortunately, repairs to house foundations or structural concrete are not something we are able to provide specific guidance on, as these types of issues can affect the structural integrity of the building and usually require a proper on site assessment. It would be best to speak with a qualified builder, structural specialist, or concreter who can inspect the area and recommend the most appropriate repair method.
Regarding the grass growing through into the living area, this is likely occurring through small gaps or cracks where the grass is able to push through from outside. A practical option would be to treat the grass outside with a non-selective herbicide such as Roundup, which will kill the grass at the root and help prevent it from continuing to grow through. Once the grass has been treated and died back, sealing any visible gaps or cracks on the outside using something like mortar can help prevent regrowth and stop other weeds from entering the space, but it will not fix the deteriorated concrete.
I'd suggest you have a builder inspect the concrete foundation to provide guidance moving forward. It would be best to ensure any repairs done take into account the structural implications of a weakened foundation.
Let me know if you have any further questions.
