How to remove fungus growth brick wall?

Question

This exterior red brick wall is due for a clean.

I know the white substance on the wall is efflorescence & it was a helpful clue that I needed to

call my plumber to check a nearby pipe.

What about the small round, reddish/orange growth though? Is it a type of fungus?

Hi @Else,

I couldn't tell you what specific type, but it certainly looks like a fungus of some kind.

I'd suggest you spray it with some mould killer to neutralise it, then wait around a week before physically removing it.

Make sure you pop on some gloves and a mask, then use some warm soapy water with a scrubbing brush to remove anything that remains. You can repeat this process if anything returns.

Both the efflorescence and mould are indicators there is moisture in the brick, so contacting your plumber for assistance with this is definitely a good idea. If the cause of the moisture issue is resolved, then fingers crossed the fungus won't return.
