Hi , I have an old timber sideboard that I thrifted . I am looking to make a Pooja room out of it with a floating shelf with brass / decorative wooden railing . And also a top decorative wooden board.
Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @dnjaya. It's splendid to have you join us and many thanks for your question.
That timber sideboard is a lovely starting point for a Pooja mandir. Turning it into a feature with a floating shelf and decorative railing is definitely doable. For the shelf, something like the Flexi Storage Decorative Shelving 600 x 36 x 240mm Walnut Floating Shelf could work nicely, giving you a clean, modern support for your item
For the decorative railing and top board, it’s worth noting that these kinds of turned finials and carved trims are typically handcrafted or turned on a lathe. They’re usually sold as part of a set and can be out of reach for most DIYers unless you’re quite skilled in woodworking. Alternatively, even small touches like brass brackets, decorative knobs, or edging can help give your mandir a traditional, ornate feel without needing to make everything from scratch.
With a bit of planning and layering these elements, your sideboard can really become a beautiful, personalised Pooja corner.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
