How to replace toilet and use Bunnings installation offer?

Question

Hi, I have two toilets that need replacing - image attached. I believe they are close-coupled, S trap toilets.

The Bunnings $275 installation states it needs to be 'like-for-like' but it is not clearly defined.

Would this unit be classified a 'like-for-like' installation given it's both S trap and P trap compatible?

I'm sorry but your picture did not appear on your post. However, if you look at your first picture in your first post, I can see the grey linking pipe (ever so slightly peeking) that goes from the bottom of the cistern to the back of the pan clearly identifying it as a linked toilet suite. In order for it to be a close coupled set there must be no pipe or plastic cover link present. It is a direct connection between the pan and cistern as seen here - Estilo Close Coupled Rimless S Trap Toilet Suite. I have also included a technical drawing of a Caroma linked toilet suite that illustrates the pipe link between the cistern and pan.

If you are wondering about the plastic nut and bolt present under your pan those are the toilet seats butterfly nut and bolt.

I've attached a closer picture - can you check again? I asked another forum and they said it was a close-coupled suite with an exposed flush connector, not a link suite.

* The cistern is bolted directly to the pan.

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's sensational to have you join us, and thanks for sharing your question about the toilet installation service.

There are a number of toilet configurations, the first one is called a linked toilet suite. This toilet uses a plastic pipe to link the cistern and pan together. This pipe is often hidden by a plastic link cover so that it appears that the toilet is an all-in-one set but if you look at the back you will see that it is not (this is the toilet set up you currently have). Next is the close coupled toilet suite, this toilet is easily identified as the cistern sits directly on the pan and has no plastic pipe joining it. They are usually joined together with two nut and bolt screws that go through the cistern and into the pan itself and is screwed from the bottom.

The last one is called the back to wall toilet suite. This toilet is like the close coupled and that the cistern sits on the pan, but its one distinguishing feature is that the pan has a skirt on both sides that travels all the way to the back wall and hides all the connections. This would be the Mondella Signature White Rimless Back to Wall Toilet Suite you are referring to. The differences between the linked toilet suite and the back to wall toilet suite are the following:

* The back to wall toilet suite needs the cistern tap to be installed inside the cistern itself. This is not necessary for the linked toilet suite.
* The back to wall toilet suite uses a pan outlet converter to turn it into an "S" trap toilet suite. A linked toilet suite is fixed to its configuration and is not convertible.
* A inked toilet suite will sometimes have a much larger set out adjustment feature which allows it to be installed much further away from the wall.
* A linked toilet suite is able to accept generic cistern replacement sets, a back to wall can only use the same type of cistern.

Therefore, a like for like means that the replacement must be a linked toilet suite as well like the Stylus Allegro Link Toilet Suite or the Estilo White PVC S Trap Cistern Link Suite 5.8L/Full. However, having said that, it is possible to speak to your toilet installer and informing them of your desire to install the back to wall toilet suite. The plumber will determine if it is possible and may add a separate fee for the different toilet installation. My best advice is to speak to your plumber and make an inquiry in regards to the installation.
