Experience with Zinsser Peel Stop?

Just wondering if people have had any experience using this specific primer?

I have a few places around the house where the past owner has not prepped a lot of surfaces for paint appropriately, and it's peeling all over the place.

On gloss doors, on the ceiling in the kitchen and bathroom, random walls etc.

Is this a suitable primer for those spots, or more aimed at old peely fences or only for use on matte surfaces?

It soaks in and binds those fragile layers together, helping to stabilise the surface and extend the life of your paint job. In situations where the paint is already delaminating, meaning it hasn’t properly adhered to the surface underneath in the first place, a more thorough repair is needed. In those cases, like peeling off glossy doors, poorly prepped ceilings, or badly painted walls, the issue is happening beneath the surface, and Peel Stop can’t fix that root problem. It may help slow down edge lifting and reduce further peeling in the short term, but it won’t stop the coating from continuing to fail over time.

The most reliable and future-proof solution is still the more labour-intensive route: thoroughly removing all compromised paint, properly preparing the surface, applying the correct primer, and then repainting. That said, if you’re not ready to commit to a full overhaul, you could take a more targeted approach. On the worst areas, scrape and sand back until you reach paint that is firmly adhered, then apply the Peel Stop to help stabilise the surrounding edges before priming and repainting. This kind of patch fix can buy you a few extra years and slow the spread, but it is more of a temporary mitigation than a permanent cure.
