How to install a bike rack on plasterboard wall?

Hey All, I attached a small bike rack to the wall in my garage but came home to found that it has fallen off the wall. Fortunately there was no damage. My dad said I need bigger screws to hold the weight of the bike. Problem is the wall its on isn't super think and I'm worried that if I get long screws they might come out the the other side.

Any recommendations?

We can definitely suggest bigger screws, but in order for us to recommend the correct one, can you please tell us more about the type of wall you are screwing into? Is it brick, plasterboard, masonry or other? Each material has specific rules on what type of mounting screw is to be used on its surface. For brick, you'll need a wall plug and a screw that is long enough and thick enough to anchor your bike holder in place. If its too small the screw and wall plug will slip out.

For plasterboard, it would be ideal to locate the stud wall as plasterboard is not meant to hold heavy weights. Simply screwing into them even with plasterboard fittings it is not advised as the weight will simply pull them out of the wall. For masonry, you have the choice of using Dynabolts, AnkaScrews or chemical anchors. If you can provide a photo of your wall along with the current fitting, we'll be able to make recommendations on what you'll need to use to properly anchor your bike rack.
