Hi,
My irrigiation hose was accident cut, and now has a 4.5cm length deficit. I had tried using a barbed inline tap but unfortunately that is too short to link up the defect. Does anyone have any suggestion on how to fix this?
Many thanks!
Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @eating. It's fabulous to have you join us and many thanks for your question on repairing an irrigation hose.
To fix the irrigation hose with a 4.5 cm gap, you’ll need to extend the connection rather than rely on a single short fitting. A practical solution is to use two https://www.bunnings.co.nz/k-rain-13mm-barbed-joiner-10-pack_p0131006 joined by a short piece of matching hose. Insert one barbed connector into each cut end of the damaged hose, then connect both barbs using the small hose segment. This effectively creates a longer inline connector that can bridge the missing section. Make sure the hose piece matches the same diameter as your irrigation line, and secure all connection points with clamps to prevent leaks. You may need to buy a full length of hose just to cut a small piece if you don’t already have spare material.
Another option, especially if the damage is near the start of the line, is to install a longer inline component such as a https://www.bunnings.com.au/pope-13mm-poly-inline-barbed-filter_p3127265 . These are typically longer than standard barbed joiners and can span the gap while also adding functionality.
In all cases, ensure tight fittings and use clamps on every joint for a reliable repair.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
