With some horizontal rain, two front windows leaked water inside aided by 50kph winds. The rubber seals between glass and aluminium frame appear ok. Is there a spray or something to apply which would reseal the windows
Hi @Kevin Fischer,
Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community, it is fantastic to have you with us.
Unfortunately, I'm not aware of a spray you can apply that will properly reseal a leaking window.
The key is to first identify exactly where the water is getting in, as that will determine the fix. With wind driven rain, water can track in from a few different spots, so it is worth taking a bit of time to narrow it down. A simple way to do this is with a hose. Start low and work your way up slowly, wetting one section at a time while someone watches from inside. That way you can pinpoint the exact entry point rather than guessing.
Common areas to check are the joints in the aluminium frame, the perimeter where the frame meets the wall, and the sill or drainage points. Sometimes the issue is not the glass seals at all, but water getting in around the outside of the frame or through small gaps in the corners.
Once you have found the source, silicone is usually the go to fix. A good quality exterior grade silicone can be applied to seal gaps in the frame joints or around the outside of the window where it meets the wall. The important part is making sure the area is clean and dry before applying it so you get a proper seal.
If you can track down the exact spot, the fix is usually quite straightforward. If you can upload some photos showing the outside of the window I could certainly have a look and see if anything obvious jumps out.
Let me know if you need a hand uploading images or if you have any further questions.
