We have an existing pergola as per photos and would like to install a gutter and downpipe to stop the rainwater falling off the roof and erosion of the ground below. How would I best attach a gutter to this?
Hi @DIYBock,
Please note that plumbing work needs to be completed by a licensed professional for safety and compliance, so it is worth checking if this is considered plumbing work within your local area to ensure that you are proceeding within the regulations of your area.
To attach a gutter to your pergola, you would need to add a fascia board, which you would attach gutter brackets to, then add your gutter and downpipe.
Because you haven't got a flat plane to attach your fascia to, you would need to use a bracket such as this https://www.bunnings.com.au/dunnings-22-galvanised-extended-fascia-bracket_p1076113 on each rafter. This bracket will both extend the fascia board out so the gutter can be in line with the edge of the sheeting and allow the fascia board to be installed plumb, so the gutter does not roll outwards.
When the fascia board is in place, you can then attach your gutter brackets to the fascia board, ensuring they are set so there is a gradual slope towards the downpipe. Once the gutter brackets are in place, you will slip the gutter in place and then attach your downpipe.
Let me know what you think and if you have further questions, please don't hesitate to ask.
