Hi π
Im planning to gravel the side of the house. It has an existing drainage pit. I know i need to slope away from the house but what about the pit ? Should this sit level with the gravel or above it ?
Thank you π
Hi @morganliv,
Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community, it is wonderful to have you with us.
Youβll want to maintain a slight fall away from the house with your gravel, but the drainage pit itself should be kept level with the finished surface of the gravel. This ensures it can properly collect water and, just as importantly, remains accessible for maintenance and clearing if needed.
If the pit sits too high it can become a trip hazard and wonβt collect water as effectively, and if itβs too low it can end up getting buried or clogged more easily.
So, aim to have your gravel finish flush with the top of the pit grate; while keeping the surrounding area graded so water naturally flows toward it and away from the house.
Let me know if you have any further questions.
Jacob
Brilliant thank you
