Have these as a hedge but have gone all woody I do cut them back often can I cut them right back to start regrowth or should I replace for a better hedging wanting approx 70/80 cm high sorry not sure what these are
Hi @Cher54,
They seem to be cupheas, which are a small evergreen shrub commonly used for low hedges and borders.
They can get pretty woody over time, especially if they’ve just been lightly trimmed on the outside. The good news is they can handle a fairly hard prune as long as it is done at the right time of year. The best time to do a hard prune is late winter or early spring coming into the growing season, so they bounce back quickly.
A couple of tips:
That said, if they’re very leggy, patchy, or not filling out low down, replacement can sometimes give you a much nicer, denser hedge faster.
For a 70 to 80 cm hedge, cupheas will work well, or you could look at alternatives like lilly pilly for a denser hedge depending on the look you want.

Thanks Jacob will try the pruning if that doesn't work might replace with your recommendation.
